Finding Inspiration and Creativity in Healthcare

Being in southern France at the first-ever Cannes Lions Health Festival was overwhelming (in a good way). I can still hardly believe that I, a junior copywriter, was able to attend and interact with some of the best and brightest minds in the business.
Over the course of four days, Lions Health exposed me to great people, great work and great ideas. I'm thankful to have been given the opportunity to be a part of the festival, both as a festival-goer and a panel speaker, because I believe Lions Health will become a healthcare marketing tradition in the industry, just like its general advertising counterpart, The Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. Perhaps one day, the two can combine.
As a young festival goer at Lions Health, I absorbed every ounce of creativity and advice I could. As a speaker, I joined Rich Levy and Jill Weingarten in a discussion about how to recruit young talent into healthcare. While we were on stage, talking about how to inspire college students and recent graduates, I realized just how inspired I was myself. Lions Health was a truly motivating experience. After seeing the work, meeting a few of our industry's top leaders and getting a glimpse of the talent it takes to win at Cannes, I've been inspired to raise my own standards for healthcare advertising. I've been inspired to look toward the future of my career.
What I'd like to focus on in the coming years is not just celebrating the great work already being done in the category, but requiring the quality of creative work to improve year after year. Right now, there's an opportunity for immense creativity in healthcare, and the great thing about healthcare products is that they truly help people. They save lives. They save families. They save our families. By working in healthcare, we can be creative while doing something good for the world.
At Lions Health, there was truly a tangible change in the air. The level of creativity is on the rise. The level of student interest in the category is also on the rise. I think those of us who are already in the healthcare community are just waiting for everyone else to catch on.
